Deepavali

Deepavali or also known as the Festival of Light is celebrated by the Hindu devotees in Melaka. The celebration symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.

Prior to the celebration, houses are decorated with various of lights and kolam is drawn at the front lawn with colorful rice. Hindu temples are also decorated with flowers and offerings are placed at altars.

On the morning of Deepavali, many Hindus take a sesame oil bath. Then they will dress nicely in their traditional suit and go to the temple for the prayers. After the ceremonial rites, they will go back home and start receiving the guests. They normally serve food such as sweetmeats, rice puddings, and murukku.

All Hindu temples held an event to celebrate Deepavali in Melaka.

Time

The event doesn’t have a fixed date annually since it follows Lunar Calendar. However, Deepavali always fall in October.

There is no charge for this event.
