Taiping Lake Gardens

The Taiping Lake Gardens is the first public garden in Malaysia. The garden is located near Bukit Larut and the Taiping Zoo. The huge lake was formerly a tin mine but was since transformed into a beautiful well used and well maintained park where flowers, birds, insects, animals and lush greenery thrive. It is cherished for its beauty and has been well-maintained since its opening. One cannot claim to have visited Taiping without taking some time off to soak in the natural beauty of the Taiping Lake Gardens.

There are ten scenic lakes and ponds such as Alamanda Pond, Island Pond, Jungle Lake, Oblong Pond, Pavilion Pond, South Lake, Swan Lake and West Lake. The streets are shaded by rows of the angsena tree that bursts forth into a riot of yellow blossoms. The flowers rain down and spread the overpowering fragrance. There are also other features such as a Lotus Pool, charming bridges, tracks for jogging and reflexology, a roller-skating rink, paddle boat rides and a playground.

The scenic Taiping Lake Gardens has been gazetted as a national heritage. Prior to being awarded the heritage status, the Taiping Lake Gardens had won several national awards including the Best City & Town Park 2018, The Best Eco and Heritate Tourism Destination by Malaysia Tourism Council Cold Award and Green Initiative Award by Malaysia Landscape Architecture Award 2017.

It’s even grander & more spectacular with the century year-old rain trees lining the roads with their branches & foliages sweeping or more appropriately “raining” down over the roads onto the shimmering surface of the lake. Here’s a paradise for both amateur or professional photographers.

The Lake Gardens are particularly known for the raintrees planted by the roadside that branch out so precariously low, almost touching the lake. It really is a special sight especially in the cool early morning when the waters would be still, creating an almost perfect reflection of the outstanding foliage.
