Gunung Ledang

Gunung Ledang is located in Tangkak, Johor. It is the highest mountain in Johor. It had been gazetted as a Johor National Park in 2005. The size of the park is 8,611 hectares.

Gunung ledang is also a popular spot for mountain climbers. It takes four to five hours to climb to the top. The visitors will have plenty to explore as they climb their way up. Among the trails available are the Asahan Trail, Lagenda Trail, Ayer Panas Trail and Jementah Trail.

Besides montain climbing activities, Gunung Ledang offers other attractions are the Puteri Waterfalls that cascades from 60 meters height with pools, picnic and bathing area further downstream and the Tangkak Dam that is located at the hill foot.

It is popularly known for its Malay folklore the legend of Puteri Gunung Ledang. She is a princess with magical powers that lives on the mountain. She was wooed to be the wife of the then Sultan of Malacca, Sultan Mahmud Shah. However, she set seven impossible conditions for him as a means to reject his proposal.

There are accommodation such as chalets and campsites provided.

I have to say that while Gunung Ledang is not the hardest of mountains to climb (definitely easier than Nuang), it is one of the most interesting. I’d definitely recommend that everyone should climb it at least once
