Hiap Joo Bakery & Biscuit Factory

Hiap Joo Bakery & Biscuit Factory was first open at 1919. This little bakery offers delicious buns, cakes and biscuits baked in a charcoal oven.

The bakery is located along Jalan Tan Hiok Nee street. The place still retain the old style like it was almost a hundred year ago. It is mostly untouched except for the restoration of the oven roof.

There are stacks of wooden planks neatly place outside the shop. The wooden planks serve as the main fuel to ignite the fire for the oven.

Their signature product is a banana cake. However, its other products such as butter cake, coconut bun, otak bun and many more are equally as delicious and popular.

The bakery gained its fame in 2008 when the TV crew from U Channel interviewed and featured them in a documentary.

Hear From Others

Extremely moist and bursting with rich banana flavours, you could tell at first bite that the bakery uses high-quality bananas in their recipe. The sweetness of the cake comes from the banana fruit instead of confectioners’ sugar and we love how the cake had a nutty texture without it being too rough. Fans of banana cakes will not be disappointed!

What really stands out from this box of banana cakes that are unlike anything you would have tasted, would mainly have to be its fragrance, texture and flavor!

If you live in JB, you must have heard of Hiap Joo before. I have been eating their banana cake and buns since young, and recently, they’re becoming increasingly popular that getting your hands on one of their cakes and buns might prove to be a problem due to the crazy queue on weekends.
