Jerejak Island
Jerejak Island is a small island located at the eastern coast of Penang Island. It can be reached via a ferry ride from Bayan Lepas and only takes 10 minutes to reach.
The island is known to have a dark history in the past. During the British administration. The island is used as a leper asylum in 1871. The asylum was closed in 1960’s and the inmates were transferred to Sungai Buloh Leper Settlement.
After the end of World War II, there was a tuberculosis outbreaks. A sanatorium was set up in the island to house the victims.The security was set equal to maximum security prison, earning the island the moniker, the Alcatraz of Malaysia. The center was eventually closed in 1993.
Jerejak Island was redeveloped into a resort in 2000. It is now one of the famous islands in Penang to be visited for its rich nature and beautiful view. It also offers variety of extreme outdoor activities such as abseiling, flying fox and many more.

Operating Hours
The island is opened 24 hours. However the early ferry ride from Penang starts at 6.30 a.m and the last departing ferry from Jerejak Island is at 11.30 p.m.
Admission
The island is free for visitors to explore. Unless the visitors decide to stay overnight, then the charge is decided by the resort owner.

Children: RM 15.00

In the daytime adventure village of the resort is where you go for outdoor action on Pulau Jerejak. Take it to the limits with abseiling, rock climbing, mountain biking or take to nature with fishing, jungle trekking or camping under the stars.
This little island has been equipped with some adventurous facilities and activities. More and more people getting to know about it and this is definitely a nice place to go for one day trip. If you plan to go to this island, no preparation is needed

The island gets its name from the word aman that conveys the meaning of peace.It is a home to a traditional Malay village. Aman Island is a famous fishing spot. It also offers interesting places such as Jalan Telaga Emas, Batu Perompak and many more.
Air Itam Dam
Air Itam Dam is the first dam to be built on Penang Island. It is surrounded by Penang Hill and Paya Terubong. The dam is a favorite place for jogging. The visitors can get a panoramic view of George Town from the highest point of the dam.
Penang Snake Temple
The Snake Temple in Penang is located about 3 km from the airport in Bayan Lepas. It was built in honour of Chor Soo Kong, a Buddhist healer and priest.
