Penang Bon Odori Festival

Bon Odori festival a traditional Japanese festivals, where the dead and the living connect with each other. It is also celebrated all over Malaysia including Penang as an effort to expose Japanese culture towards the Malaysian.

Penang Bon Odori is celebrated by performing the traditional dance and drum performances to welcome the homecoming of ancestral spirits. The Japanese Buddhist believes that the spirit of ancestors will return once a year to visit the families.

Besides the drums and the dance performances, there are activities such as martial arts, cheer leading competition, talent shows, and funny displays for the visitors to enjoy. There are also firework displays going on.

The festival in Penang is held around the month of July till September. It starts from 6.00 p.m to 10.30 p.m
