Christmas

Christmas Day is celebrated by the Christians in Kuala Lumpur. It is celebrated on 25th December annually to commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ.

Two weeks before Christmas, the Christians usually set up the christmas trees at home and decorate them. All the shopping malls would start to decorate their lobbies with Christmas trees and christmas decoration to welcome Christmas. There is also a person dressed as Santa Claus who gives out sweets and present to the children.

On the eve of Christmas, the Christians would dress up in new clothes and visit the church to participate in the midnight mass. After the mass service, they would greet each other “Merry Christmas”.

On the Christmas morning, the family would gather and have a feast. Wine, fruit cakes and christmas cookies are usually served. Then they will be exchanging gifts and opening them.

Where to go?

There is no exact location for visitors to go and experience the festivals. Some tourism agencies and boards will host their own Christmas celebration. Annually, the government will make a big open house for visitors to come and join the celebration. For visitors who are not with any tourism agency, they could experience Christmas by going to the malls. Almost every mall in Kuala Lumpur would join in the celebration and hold events to celebrate Christmas.
